Aditya Dhar is an Indian writer, director and lyricist. He made his directorial debut with Uri: The Surgical Strike, which was based on the 2016 Uri attack. He won the best director award for this film at the 66th National Film Awards in 2019.
Aditya Dhar made his debut with the film, Haider. The film was produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Aditya Dhar was born on June 15, 1980, in Pune, Maharashtra. Dhar, the eldest son of noted painter B. D. and painter Lalita Dhar, graduated from Aniket Natya Mandir in 1984, and completed his graduation in English literature from Fergusson College, Pune in 2002. Dhar joined the Indian Navy in 2002. During his service with the navy, he had directed the short films ‘Nee Toh Kujha Lagaya, The Other Side Of The House’, and ‘Pawan Ki Kahani’. He was commissioned on July 3, 2003. Dhar left the navy in 2007. His writings have been published in Khaleej Times, Gulf News, Kaleidoscope and other publications. He has penned the screenplay and dialogues for films like Dev D, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dilwale, and Secret Superstar.
Aditya Dhar is married to Sonali Dhar. Sonali is a former member of the Indian National Swimming Team. They are married since 1995 and have two children – daughter, Pranutan and son, Abhay.
